Contract agriculture boosts villagers’ income

Villagers were busy planting chili peppers in Qinfeng Village, Shijiachong Subdistrict, Jishou City, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in recent days.

In order to help villagers boost their income, this year, the Resident Working Team of the Department of Science and Technology of Hunan Province in Qinfeng Village, together with Jishou Shengxing Agricultural Development Co., Ltd., has promoted the chili planting industry through contract agriculture.

The company has signed a vegetable purchase agreement with the village economic cooperative to provide full process plant protection services for the villagers and solve technical, management, sales and other problems in chili planting.

At the same time, the resident working team has also provided more than 150,000 chili seedlings and more than 2,500 kilograms of fertilizer and other production materials free of charge to villagers. Technicians are invited to provide in-depth explanations and on-site guidance on chili planting techniques.

“According to the yield of chili peppers and the guaranteed purchase price, villagers can earn more than 8,000 yuan per mu (about 0.067 hectares), which can reduce the burden of selling agricultural products for farmers and also bring tangible benefits to them,” said the head of the working team.

In the future, the working team will introduce more advanced agricultural technologies and resources and strengthen cooperation with all parties, injecting new impetus into the development of Qinfeng Village through technology empowerment and contract agriculture, helping to upgrade the local vegetable industry and fatten villagers’ wallets.
